Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing the Friday Bulletin this week as Mrs Whistler has been in Wales with our Year 6 children. I’m sure you will hear all about it in next week’s bulletin.
Last week, we hosted our first ever ‘World of Work’ week at Kells Lane: it was a great success.
The aim of World of Work Week was to raise children’s aspirations about the opportunities they have available to them in the world of work. During the week, children developed an awareness of a variety of careers; learned about the links between skills learned at school and success later in life and developed their understanding of why people earn and save money.
Every year group, from Early Years to Year 6, were involved in a range of exciting lessons and workshops including visitors who came to talk about their chosen professions. We had a vast range of jobs and professions represented (mainly parent volunteers) including: engineers, musicians, health visitors, chartered surveyor, university lecturers, teachers, police, doctors and artists.
Visitors and volunteers involved enjoyed the week as much as the children, with many commenting on how welcome they felt and how well-behaved and engaged the children were.
I am very grateful to all of the volunteers who made the week a success and would like to thank all of you for giving up your time to work with us.
Many thanks go to:
– All of our parent volunteers
– Northumbria Police
– Rentokil
– The Ambulance Service
– Newcastle University STEM Outreach team
– Royal Northern Sinfonia
– INTO Newcastle University
Please take a look at some of our photos and highlights from the week.
I hope you have a good weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Miss P Nagle
Deputy Headteacher
