Dear Parents and Carers,
As many of you know, our school councillors have had a very busy term organising fundraising activities and much more. One of their key responsibilities is to assist with school improvement. They do this by leading weekly assemblies to consult with other children, and by meeting with school leaders and governors to discuss key issues. It was because of this consultation process that the group became aware of a general lack of awareness of the Kells Lane school motto ‘broadening horizons for the future’. They decided it was time to for a change and quickly realised that this would also be the perfect time to review our school rules.
Following several months of gathering ideas and consulting with pupils and governors, the school councillors are now ready to reveal the outcome of their hard work.
They decided our ‘growth mindset’ approach to learning should be reflected in the school motto. As a result, our new school motto is ‘Believe, Work Hard, Achieve’.
The group also felt strongly about making sure the school rules were as inclusive and simple to understand as possible. With this in mind, they have settled on three all-encompassing rules for everyone to follow.
- Respect yourself and others
- Be kind
- Work hard
I am very proud of the group for their incredibly proactive approach to school life and would like to say thank you and well done to Cammy, Anya, Emily and Jack.
Finally, our gymnastics team performed an incredible routine at the Gateshead Gymnastics Festival this week. Thank you to all the children who took part and to Mrs King for such a professional routine.
Have a great weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs A Whistler
Headteacher
