Dear Parents and Carers,
This week’s bulletin is designed to give you some information in advance about our World Book Day celebrations in school.
This is the 21st year there’s been a World Book Day. The main aim of World Book Day in the UK is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading. It’s all about getting children closer to the books and authors they already love, and letting them discover more books and authors they’ll love every bit as much in the future.
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 2nd March 2018 by inviting children (and staff) to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. All children will receive a special token they can take to a local bookseller and can use it to pick one of TEN (exclusive, new and completely free) books. Or, if they’d rather, they can use it to get £1 off any book or audio book costing over £2.99 at a participating bookshop or book club.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is #ShareAStory. This campaign is encouraging parents, carers, siblings and friends to read to one another, highlighting the importance of spending JUST 10 MINUTES a day reading and sharing stories with children.
We will be having ‘Share a Story’ sessions in classes, with older children reading to younger children. We will also be encouraging all our children to share their favourite story with the rest of the class.
This is always a very popular and fun event in school; I’m sure this year will be no exception.
Have a great weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs A Whistler
Headteacher
