Dear Parents and Carers,
I am at the annual Gateshead Headteacher’s Conference today.
I am particularly looking forward to hearing keynote speaker Dr Andrew Curran talk to us about neuroscience and the relationship between brain development and children’s learning.
Dr Curran is a neurobiologist and a practising paediatric neurologist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. He is committed to taking his extraordinary knowledge of the workings of the human brain into learning, development and education. He has been involved with Manchester University’s Department of Education looking at the use of emotional literacy and more recently the processing of reward in the human brain.
Teaching and learning is constantly evolving at Kells Lane. I am excited to find out more about brain based learning and the importance of emotional literacy in our classrooms and in our lives.
I hope you enjoy the half term break.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs A Whistler
Headteacher
