End of year update – 22 July 2021

22 July 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, please accept my heartfelt thanks for everything you have done to support our school during this last academic year. I know it has been challenging and frustrating at times and I am grateful for your patience and understanding.

The staff at Kells Lane have continued to do everything they possibly can to support our children through another difficult year. I am incredibly grateful for their unwavering professionalism and commitment.

None of us really knew what to expect when our children came back to school last September. I have been continuously amazed at their high levels of resilience and determination.  The children have all worked really hard during their time in school. I hope you enjoyed reading the end of year progress report for your child; I am sure you are very proud of them.

There are some changes to staffing from September. As you know, Miss Heron will be leaving us to pursue a career in nursing. We will miss her a great deal but I know she’s going to make a fabulous nurse. We have some new staff joining us in September. Mrs Macdonald will be joining our admin team and Mr Jobes will be joining the teaching staff.  Miss Cairns will be a new teaching assistant in school and our two new teaching assistant apprentices are Miss Shotton and Miss Wilson. Please have a look at the staffing page of our school website for more details.

We are very much hoping to get back to normal in September. Please see below for updated drop off and pick up times etc.

As you know, my secondment at Gibside School begins in September. I will still be at Kells Lane for part of the week and Mrs Swinbank will be in charge in my absence. Mrs Swinbank will be assisted by Miss Wilson, our new assistant headteacher.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a safe and relaxing summer break. I sincerely hope you get some time to spend with your friends and family and have the opportunity to unwind and relax. I look forward to seeing you all again in September.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Whistler
